Improvement Consultant - Maryland/Virginia

Primary Responsibilities:

HQI is a health quality consulting company that serves as the Medicare Quality Innovation Network – Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) for Maryland and Virginia. In addition, we are the Practice Transformation Network (PTN) for a mid-Atlantic region, including Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Washington D.C., the only QIN-QIO in the nation to hold both contracts.” Since 1984, we have been leading the way to better healthcare by working with providers, patients and partners to improve health quality across the region. Through the PTN, we help independent practices to maximize efficiencies, manage population health and improve care coordination. HQI has helped improve patient care and safety for thousands of people over the years.

We are currently seeking an Improvement Consultant in Maryland/Virginia to work with nursing homes participating in one of the nation’s largest healthcare quality improvement programs. In this role, you will provide quality coaching to healthcare providers on topics that may include:

• Healthcare Acquired Infections
• Healthcare Associated Conditions (e.g., falls, pressure ulcers)
• Care Transitions
• Survey Systems
• Infection Control/Prevention

You will apply the latest quality improvement tools and techniques and potentially have the freedom to work from home, while being part of the region’s most experienced and respected healthcare quality improvement organization.

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be part of cross-functional teams, develop strong consultative relationships, manage multiple priorities, interpret data, and design and implement plans of action using advanced improvement tools and techniques (i.e., PDSA, LEAN, Six Sigma, etc.). Long term care experience preferred. Clinical and Quality Management experience is a plus.


Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field or related area. Master’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience preferred. RN/BSN desired. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in healthcare administration, public health or quality improvement; CPHQ or equivalent credential desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience conducting training and writing reports. Ability to travel between healthcare provider locations within the state and/or region.
