Patient Perspectives: Opioid Withdrawal
Travis Rieder, Ph.D., a research scholar in the Berman Institute of Bioethics at Johns Hopkins University, was among the patient voices represented at the 2019 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Quality Conference, held last month in Baltimore. He shared his story of withdrawal, after eliminating use of opioids too quickly while recovering from a motorcycle accident.
Now, Rieder is raising awareness of the opioid epidemic, the importance of responsible prescribing and how we can better support patients and families struggling with pain and addiction. View his TED talk to learn more about his moving story and steps you can take to support your patients. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers a pocket guide to help patients with chronic pain taper opioid use.« Return to the News
