Discussing end-of-life care can be a difficult topic for families and providers alike. To encourage the importance of planning ahead, LEAP (Learning, Expertise, Action, Partnership) hosted a community event where residents could learn more about end-of-life care and the resources available to families in the Prince William area.

Held Nov. 16, the event attracted nearly 100 participants. The day was filled with a variety of learning experiences including speakers and vendors representing home health, long-term care, hospice and other settings. Novant Health Prince William Medical Center hosted the event with the support of LEAP coalition members.

The keynote speaker was Hark Dunn, an ordained chaplain and best-selling author of “Hard Choices for Loving People: CPR, Artificial Feeding, Comfort Care and the Patient with Life-Threatening Illness.” His book is used in more than 5,000 hospitals, nursing homes, faith communities and hospice programs.
