Develop data products and deliver insights that drive safer, more equitable health care for thousands of people across the United States. Health Quality Innovators (HQI) is seeking a seasoned professional with strong foundational knowledge and skills to join our analytic team.

The Senior Health Data Analyst writes and runs programs to analyze and export data from government sources that include Medicare claims, nursing home resident assessment and healthcare acquired infection databases. Other sources include demographic, public health and electronic health record data files. In addition, you will query our SQL database and use business intelligence software to generate reports and dashboards at the individual provider, state and regional levels.

These analyses and reports help HQI’s quality improvement teams target geographic areas, patient populations and health care providers to engage in improvement initiatives; assess baseline performance on clinical quality measures for conditions like high blood pressure and patient harms like falls; identify and address health disparities; test the impact of improvement activities and measure progress over time.

As Senior Health Data Analyst, you also may work with quality improvement teams to develop data collection tools, create surveys and other assessments, and conduct evaluations. You will come to play an important role as an internal advisor who ensures the design of HQI improvement initiatives, selection and modification of interventions, and conclusions about performance are based on solid data and sound interpretation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, epidemiology or related field with two or more years’ work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience (such as a master’s degree with work-study or internship experience).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including SharePoint and Excel. Experience programming in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and using Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau to write data analysis expressions (DAX) functions. Experience programming in SAS, SQL and/or R highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with analyzing health data sets, public or private, such as Medicare claims data, Nursing Minimum Data Sets, Care Compare data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to convey analytical concepts and findings to both lay and expert audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to be a productive remote worker, manage competing priorities, and educate and advise internal teams.
