Whether she is advising community partners on medication safety initiatives or teaching seniors to properly dispose of prescription medications, Cindy Warriner, BS, RPh, CDE, is committed to helping people stay healthy. That dedication to her profession recently earned her a major honor: the Virginia Pharmacists Association’s (VPhA) 2019 Outstanding Pharmacist Award.

VPhA recently recognized Cindy Warriner with its top honor – the Outstanding Pharmacist Award.

Presented August 16 at the VPhA’s annual meeting, the award recognizes pharmacists for outstanding and lasting contributions to the profession of pharmacy. Notably, the recipient of the award is selected by a vote of VPhA members.

“Cindy’s boundless enthusiasm coupled with passion for helping others makes her an asset to Health Quality Innovators (HQI) and to patients, families and health care organizations across the Commonwealth,” said Donald A. Glozer, MHA, FACHE, President and CEO of Health Quality Innovators (HQI). “She is constantly looking for ways to help pharmacists and clinicians launch innovative improvement initiatives and to make health care safer for patients and families.”

Before joining HQI, Warriner worked as a pharmacist for multiple Richmond-area pharmacies and supported education and advocacy efforts at VPhA. Her background as a high school teacher and coach enhances her ability to deliver education to patients and colleagues.

Since joining HQI nearly four years ago, she has led the organization’s medication safety initiatives and engaged pharmacists in the Care Transitions Project. She has launched a number of new projects from the Blue Bag medication reconciliation program to a Chronic Care Management toolkit.

“Cindy embodies HQI’s mission and values, creating solutions that make a measurable difference for partners and patients,” Glozer said.
